What inspires you? This is the question I ask my new clients. Most often they have an image in mind. Not surprisingly for females that is a favorite dress. And so this is how I started a recent project. The image told me a few important things to consider as I begin the design development for their home. In the image below I see a favorite color, some ‘bling’, fashion sense and style.
Another thing that inspires is wallcovering. I’m in heaven as today’s wallcoverings are a designer’s dream. This past week I spent time sourcing for areas of the new home like the powder room, entry and bathrooms. What I found at Thibaut and Clarke and Clarke was a treasure and delight. But first let me tie up some loose ends by sharing the primary wall color for this contemporary home with a vaulted ceiling and new hardwood floors in a medium gray stain.
This neutral color is a cha·me·le·on! Chameleons are known for their ability to change the color of their skin. This Benjamin Moore color is like a chameleon as it adapts to virtually any color introduced into a home. So see some of the wall-covering patterns and textiles under consideration. Do they inspire? Love this mix.
The twist for me is the horizontal application of the entry wall-covering. It’s fresh, eye-catching and a focal point at the entry. Plus it’s sets the color theme for other areas of the home on the main floor. Graphic patterns is the predominant design theme from floor to furnishings to walls. And the volume of the rooms permits such a statement for a couple who themselves are energetic and fashionable.
